IMCA - Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy

Just Advocacy provides the statutory Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) service in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 provides for an IMCA to be appointed for people who lack capacity to make a particular decision about serious medical treatment or about where they live and who do not have family or friends who are appropriate to consult. Information about the Mental Capacity Act and IMCA can be found on the Department of Health and the Department of Constitutional Affairs websites.

In Surrey Just Advocacy will provide the IMCA service in the boroughs of Guilford, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking.

In North East Hampshire Just Advocacy will provide the IMCA service in the boroughs of Hart and Rushmoor, as part of a consortium of advocacy organisations, HARG (Hampshire Advocacy Regional Group).
