2010-2011

From April 2007 Surrey County Council commissioned us to provide the statutory Independent Mental Capacity Advocate Service under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in West Surrey. We also provide a similar service in NE Hampshire as part of a consortium of advocacy agencies.
The main service characteristics of Just Advocacy are:
- catchment area for general advocacy service, that is professional and self-advocacy: all of west Surrey except Spelthorne, that is Guildford or Waverley, Woking, Surrey Heath and Runnymede, the Fleet/Farnborough/ Aldershot areas of North Hampshire; Bracknell Forest;
- 1:1 professional advocacy;
- Independent Mental Capacity Advocate service in West Surrey and NE Hampshire.
- strong team of trustees between them contributing skills from business, public service, PR and fundraising and voluntary agencies;
- about 100 people in professional advocacy relationships at any one time;
- self advocacy groups in Surrey and Hampshire, issue or locality based, meeting as required, up to six groups at any one time;
- support to people with learning disabilities attending statutory planning meetings;
- work experience placement for general office and personal skills;
- an Advisory Group of people with learning disabilities meeting every 3 months to give their views on current activities and ideas for the future. They also produce a Newsletter. Members of the Group help with recruiting new members of staff;
- in partnership with the NAS, self advocacy groups for adults with
aspergers and high functioning autism in both West and East Surrey.
